Packing for Imats

Hello Beauty Bargain Hunters!

Earlier this month, I went on an amazing trip to New City for Imats with an wonderful group of ladies!  We had all talked through texts and other social media, but this was the first time any of us met in person.  So for us, this trip was for Imats, but it was also a girls weekend to just have fun with each other!  We all have beauty You Tube channels or blogs, so I'm going to link their sites here, if you are not subscribed to them, go check them out!  They are the sweetest, funniest girls and I know you will love all of them!

Dani- CoffeebreakwithDani
Tiffany- Tiffany Newcomb
Jess- Love For Lacquer
Samantha- Samantha Reilly

If you want to see what makeup I bought in NYC, check out my Instagram, I posted pictures of my purchases at Sephora and Imats.  Also, a lot of the ladies have posted pictures or videos of their purchases, so click on the links and their social media to see theirs.

Since you can already see what I bought in my pictures, I thought the most helpful post I could write about my trip would be the tricky part, the packing!  Specifically packing the beauty and make up products!  This trip it was particularly hard for me to pack my make up products because space had to be a huge part of the decision making process.  Don't tell my husband this, but normally when I'm traveling it's with him and I don't have to worry about the size or weight of my bags because I know anything too heavy, he will carry for me.  But on this trip, I was traveling by myself on a train, so I could only bring what I could carry on and off the train and through the streets of New York City. Here's what I carried on my beauty product bag:

Here are all the products I brought: Q-Tips, perfumes (Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker and Especially by Escada), Got2B hair powder, Kenra Volumizing Hair Spray, Satin Care shave gel, Soap & Glory Clean on Me body wash, L'Oreal Shampoo, Aquafiy contact lense solutions, Jergens Body BB Cream, Blistex Lip Medex, Urban Decay make up setting spray, It's a 10 spray in hair conditioner, Pantene Pro-V conditioner (behind the It's a 10 bottle), Purity facial cleaner, Benefit eye cream, Suave Moroccan hair oil, Benefit Porefessional, Arm & Hammer toothpaste, Skinitmate razor, Living Proof Styling Cream, Hempz lotion packets, Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash, 100% Pure lotion sample, Smashbox face primer samples, Bare Minerals Prime Time face primer sample and Sibu toner sample.

I know most drug store have a travel size section, but I normally don't have to buy any little product bottles before a trip.  I'm not a huge traveler but to make sure that I always have travel products ready for when I do need them. I keep a cosmetic bag in my closet where I put small product samples that I accumulate. I get these with gift with purchase from online orders, samples given to me at stores or in the mail, and some times I will get a coupon for a beauty item and if it does not say excludes travel size items, you can use the coupon on the travel size and get it for free or very cheap. Just to clarify, I don't hold on to every single sample I get for traveling (like I said, I don't travel that often), if I know I already have 3 face moisturizer samples in the travel bag, I will keep any new ones to use right away, I won't save them all.  For any items that I can not find in travel size in my collection, I have some clear plastic travel containers that I got at the dollar store and Target (on clearance) that I can put products in (for this trip, I put my Pantene hair conditioner in one and Tresemme hair heat protection spray in another).

Here's the makeup items that I brought:

The make up was even trickier than the beauty products.  Since this was a weekend where I was going to be seen by lot of ladies who know their make up, I wanted to bring my favorite of everything but space was a big factor.  Luckily I had some of my favorite products in sample/mini size, like the SmashBox eyelid primer, Lancôme Hypnose Star mascara, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara Laura Geller The Real Deal concealer, It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye concealer and Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer.  Other items I love so much that I had to make space for them even though I didn't haven't a travel size, like: Kat Von D Lock It foundation, Revon ColorStay foundation, Revlon Age Defying concealer, Nars concealer, Elf Eyebrow gel, Bliss eye gel, NYX Plumping Lip Gloss in the shade Kim, Wet N Wild Fergie lipstick in Fergie Daily, Rimmel lipstick in #14, Physicians Formula green concealer (for blemishes), Benefit Rockateur blush, Physicians Formula Vegas Strip highlighter, Locac Baked Perfecting face powder, Rimmel Scandal Eye Shadow sitck, Jordana eye shadow stick, Bobbi Brown concealer, Beauty Blender, nail file, and tweezer.  And the small Target container has my under eye setting powder, Ben Nye Cameo powder.

I also packed my Lorac Pro palette for my eye shadow.  I'm not a huge fan of this palette (I know, I'm the only one on the planet!) but I took it because it was packaged well for traveling and since I'm not in love with it, if it broke I wouldn't feel the need to go and buy another one right away.  But I actually didn't even use it because I bought the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette my first day in New York and I used that the whole weekend!

I also looked to take some products that were multi-tasking products.  Like my Physicians Formula highlighter is also great as a eye shadow as a blending color.  And Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer can also be used as an eyelid eye shadow color.

I know this may seem like a lot of beauty products for a weekend, but I wanted to be prepared for anything and I was going to Imats, so I needed to look my best!  Now that I'm home I can say that I did not use every single product I brought (I used most of the make up products, but probably only half the beauty items). And maybe on the next trip I will cut some of the items, but it did make me feel good to know I was prepared for anything!

Happy Savings Everyone!

What products do you like to take when you're traveling and why?  I love hearing about new products that make traveling easier!

Product Empties Part 2

Hello Beauty Bargain Hunters!

I've still got a big bag full of empties to reviews so expect a lot of parts for these Empties Posts!  If you did not read part one of my Empties, scroll below to see the first set of products I reviewed.  For anyone who is not familiar, "Empties" blogs or vlogs in when people give mini reviews on products after they have completely used a product or are preparing to throw it away.  I find empty reviews more reliable than most other kinds because once you have completely used a product, you really know if you like it and if your opinion stands the test of time!  So here is the latest group:

Clinique Take The Day Off Make Up Remover
Used to Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: No
I should start by saying I'm very particular about my eye make up remover.  I do not like removers that feel oily or greasy.  There have been a lot of removers that say oil free, but my eyes still feel like a oil slick after I use them.  So normally when I find a eye make up remover that doesn't feel greasy, I stick with it!  Unfortunately, this one feels oily to me.  It works very well at removing all my eye make up, but it leaves my eyes oily, so I normally have to wash them with something else after I use this product to remove the oil feeling. This bottle is a sample that a good friend gave to me.  Clinique includes these bottles in their free gifts with purchase often, so if you are interested in this product, I would recommend trying to get a gift bag.  If you don't mind the oily feeling, you probably will like this product, it's gentle on the eyes and removes all your make up quickly.

CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation
Used to Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Already have
I don't know if you can tell by this picture, but I used this foundation to the last drop I could get out of the bottle!  If you checked out my Holy Grail Products, Face Edition post (see archives on the side bar) you know that this is one of my holy grail foundations.  I absolutely love this, I love wearing it alone or mixing it with other foundations.  Full coverage, great for oily or combination skin, can't say enough good things about it!

Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask
Used to Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: No
When I pay more for a product than I can buy the same product in another brand, I hold it to a higher standard.  I would say even more for Lush products, because they are very pricey and they have a lot of hype.  So unfortunately, this face mask let me down.  This mask was made with blue berries, but I was not crazy about the smell.  It was also not easy to apply, it was very thick and did not spread easily.  And of course, the biggest part, I did not feel like it made much of a difference on my skin.  So I will not be repurchasing this kind (Lush has more types of masks, so I may try a different one).

Clear Volumizing Root Boost Shampoo
Used to Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Yes
I have purchase this shampoo many times before with sales and discounts (I always try to pay no more than $1 for a bottle of shampoo).  I am a big fan of this one, I feel like it gets my hair very clean.  I don't feel like there is any waxy build up and it lathers well.  But I thought I would also mention, I only buy the Clear shampoo, not the conditioner.  I used the conditioner awhile ago and it left my hair dry and with a lot of static (which is not normal for me) so I don't use that one anymore.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
Used to Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Yes
I am a big fan of this concealer.  I used it under my eyes and for small imperfections on my face.  It does not provide enough coverage for red blemishes (I have only found two concealers ever that work for that), but it covered everything else.  The formula is a but thinner than some other concealers I use, so sometimes I will put a little bit of a second layer under the eyes.  It lasts all day and doesn't oxidize.  I pick this up whenever I have sales and coupons for Maybelline.

40 Carrots Vitamin Serum
Used to Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: No
I should start by saying that I am really bad about using serums.  It's the one step I seem to always forget!  So I have to say for the first half of this bottle, I was not using it consistently.  But after a while I was not seeing any results so I really buckled down and started using it everyday... and then it broke me out!  I didn't realize this was what was breaking me out till I was done the bottle.  If I had known early, I would not have finished it.  So obviously I would not recommend since on top of the break out, I did not see any improvement to any other aspects of my skin.  I purchased this on sale from TJ Maxx or Marshalls (that's the only place I have ever seen 40 Carrots products).

Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Va Va Volume Mascara

The first two or three times I used this mascara I actually really liked it.  It provided a good amount of volume and my curled stayed all day.  I did notice that I had to use more coats and take more time than I usually did, but I did not mind at first.  Then the fourth time I used it, it flaked like crazy all day!  I don't mind a little flaking, but this was all day and noticeable!  The flaking continued and then the time it was taking to apply started annoying me since it was flaking.  Also, the smell was not good to me.  It's supposed to be a vanilla smell, but it smells like a cheap vanilla syrup smell (if that makes sense, haha).  After a few more uses I just got tired of it, I have so many mascara in my drawer waiting to be tried, so I'm not going to waste time on something I don't love.  The silver lining with this product is not only did I use sales and coupons, but there was also a sticker rebate attached to this product, so Physicians Formula sent me a check for the amount I paid for this product.  So I did not lose any money for trying this out!

That's it for this part, but look out for more parts very soon!  The empty bag is still really full and I keep adding to it often!  Also, I have a really fun post for later this week about my trip to NYC Imats a couple weeks ago, so stay tuned for that soon!

April Ipsy Bag

It's that time of the month again!  I know EVERYONE says this, but I can't believe it's the middle of the month again!  I seriously feel like I just got my March Ipsy bag last week!  For anyone unfamiliar, Ipsy is a beauty subscription service that costs $10 per month.  You get 4 or 5 products (mini or full size) in a small make up bag.  When you sign up, you take a survey to know your skin type, shade, and other preferences.  You can also rate the products that come in your bag after they arrive to customize your preferences even more.

I was really happy with my bag this month.  It had some great products and I can definitely say I will be using every one of them!  Here is what I got:

Ispy Bag- The theme this month is Beauty Rocks and this bag with a record on it fits cutely with the theme.  It's a big taller than some of the recent bags, so it will be nice to have a taller bag to use in my collection.

Big Sexy Hair Root Pump (mini size)- I actually already had a large size of this that I bought at Marshalls a few months ago.  I really like this product.  You spray it in your hair before you blow dry and it helps lift your roots and makes them feel and look fuller.  I will hold on to this mini size for traveling on vacations this summer!

Elizabeth Mott Pop! Goes the Shadow in the shade Champagne (I believe full size)- I love this eye shadow shade!  I am a huge fan of shiny/Champagne colors.  This color reminds me of  Stila's Kitten, but it's a but less pigmented, but a nice alternative if you can not get Kitten (but this eye shadow retails for $12.99 and Kitten retails for $18, so if you could get a coupon or sale for Kitten, I would get that one instead).  But will definitely get a lot of use out of this one!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Black (mini size)- I have another trial size of this eye pencil and I do really like it.  It glides on easily and it lasts a really long time (I swatched this one and the swatch stayed on my hand all day, even after multiple hand washings).  Again, I will keep this for traveling this summer.

Mary Kay At Play Jelly Lip Gloss in the shade Teddy Bare- I have not tried a Mary Kay product in a really long time, so I'm excited to give this a try.  The color is perfect for me, I probably would have picked this color if I had been able to pick it myself (looks like my rating my Ipsy products on their website is finally starting to pay off!)

Dr, Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant (mini size)- I use facial scrubs about 2 or 3 times a week and I love trying new products, so I will definitely be trying this one out soon.  This shows one of my favorite things about Ipsy again, being able to try out high end products like this one without having to invest in the full price of the product.  That way if I do not like it, I don't have to worry about returning it or wasting money on it.

I would definitely consider this a successful bag!  I got a to try some brands I'm not as familiar with (Mary Kary, Elizabeth Mott)  that are not available in stores without having to invest a lot of money.  Especially brands like these, where you would normally have to place a large online order to be able to try them.  I also got to try some brands that are a bit more pricey (Urban Decay, Dr. Brandt) without paying the high retail price before I knew if I liked the product.  I would highly recommend Ispy to anyone who is interested in a beauty subscription service.  Since I have signed up, I don't feel like I have gotten a bag that I did not get my $10 worth.  If you are interested in signing up, here is the link:  Ipsy

What did you get in your Ipsy bag that was different from mine?  Comment below and let me know what you got!  I love hearing what everyone got!

Product Empties Part 1

Welcome Beauty Bargain Hunters!

One of the things I consider step one of getting great beauty deals is researching the items I'm buying.  Unless something is basically free, I like to research and see if it's going to be worth the money before I buy it, even if it's only a few dollars!  That's why I like to share my experiences with products, so that it could help you decide whether or not to purchase these products (with sales and coupons of course!) in the future.

I normally post mini reviews for products on my Instagram account, but I have been pretty busy lately, so I thought I would group some products together and make some blog posts instead.  I have used up a lot of products lately, so this going to have a few parts to it!  Here is the first group of products!

Olay Wet Cleansing Wipes
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Maybe
This is a product I go back and forth about.  I used to us these make up wipes religiously for years before I really got into makeup.  They are a great size and they are normally moist.  But now that I have been using other wipes I’m not sure if I love these as much anymore.  I feel like the moistness is not always evenly distributed between the wipes.  Some are more on the dry side and I’ll need to use two wipes to completely take all of my make up off and other wipes I will have to ring them out before I use them.  So I think for me it’s just going to come down to if I can find good deals on them.  If I can get them at a good price, I would probably repurchase.

Soap and Glory Hand Food (Hand Cream)
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Yes
I absolutely love this hand cream!  I know hand cream is usually not a big deal to people.  You put it on and continue with your day.  But this cream makes your hands feel so soft and smooth no matter how dry they were before.  It’s not greasy at all, it absorbs quickly so you can get back to whatever you were doing without having to wait for it to dry.  And I have not even mentioned the best part yet…. The smell!  It is the best smelling lotion/cream/moisturizer I have ever used in my life- hands down.  There were times I would put on this cream and then keep smelling my hands afterwards because they smelled so good!  It’s like a nice sweet, clean smell (sorry, I’m horrible at describing scents!).  My only issue with this product is it is pricey.  Normally I would say it’s way too much for a hand cream, but it’s so good I like having it anyway!  I would say to wait until Sephora has a sale or I would put this on you Christmas or Birthday wish list (a lot of the Soap and Glory gift sets include Hand Food) because a tube of this does last a long time!  I kept this 4.2 oz tube in my desk at work and it lasted me about a year!

Rite Aid Exfoliating Cotton Rounds
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Maybe
I did really enjoy these rounds.  I mostly just used these for applying toner to my face.  They are soft on one side and exfoliating on the other side.  I think the exfoliating side makes it feel like I’m getting a little deeper into the skin.  But I’m unsure if that feeling is worth paying a bit more of the rounds.  I can get really good soft cotton rounds with the same amount of rounds at my dollar store, so I really need to feel like it’s a lot better to pay more for it.  I think this would be another case of if I could get a good deal where they cost a dollar or maybe $1.50, I would repurchase.

Schwarzkopf Professionals Osis +  Flat Liners Flattening Iron Serum
Used Till Empty: No
Would Repurchase: No
I had never heard of this product until my local Ulta was moving locations and they put a ton of products on clearance.  It was originally $21, it was on clearance for $5.25 plus I think I got another discount below that so it was like $3 something.  But I ended up not liking this product for two reasons.  The first one is more my fault than the product.  It made my hair too flat!  After I blow dry my hair can get pretty big, so I thought this spray would help smooth it, but it completely flattened it to the point that it did not look good.  But I don’t know if I can completely blame the spray since it is called Flat Liners, guess I should have expected that! Haha  But the second issue I have with this is definitely not my fault, it’s the smell!  It’s awful!  It took about a half hour to stop smelling it after I used it on my hair but it took my straightener and hair brushed probably about a week to stop reeking!  So even if you did want you hair flat as a pancake, I would still not recommend it because you flat hair would smell awful!

NYX Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Hell yeah!
This is my holy grail face powder.  I won’t go into too much retail because I already did a in depth review with my Holy Grail Face Products post (see past post for details).  But I just want to say if I could only have one powder for the rest of my life, it would be this one.  It’s perfect to use after applying foundation or to use in place of foundation for just some coverage to run errands or something.  My only tiny little gripe about this one is you can use it up quicker than most other powders I have used, but in my opinion it’s worth the repurchase!  I try to buy it at Ulta when they have 40% or B1G1 50% and I have a store coupon.

ELF Corrective Concealer Palette
Used Till Empty: No
Would Repurchase: No
I love using colored concealers for under eye circles and on healing pimples or scars.  But this concealer palette just does not have enough color pay off.  I did not like the yellow right away (it was like a light, light beige on my skin) but I tried to work with the green for a while.  The green had better color pay off, but it was still not nearly as good as the Physicians Formula green concealer, so I finally decided to trash this and stick with the one that works better!

Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Triple Moisture Body Cream

Used Till Empty: No

Would Repurchase: No
I love most of the B&BW scents I have ever purchase, but I just ended up not liking this one.  When I just smelled it quickly in the store it seemed fine but the more I used it the more didn’t like the smell.  It’s like a smoky, burned maple sugar smell and I was just not a fan.  I used about half of this and then I just decided I have so many body lotions and creams that I love the smell, I was not going to waste my time on one I didn’t care for.  But I do like the Triple Moisture Body Creams, I would only recommend using them in the winter because they are thick, but they are great to use on dry skin in the winter!
That's my first set of product empties!  Everything in the bag in the first picture will be mentioned in one of these empty posts, so if something you want to see reviewed sooner, comment below and I'll see if I can bump it up the list!  Also let me know if you have any more questions about the products, I love helping others decide if products will be good for them!
