The Lipstick Product Tag

Welcome Beauty Bargain Hunters!

I was so excited when first saw this tag going around on blogs and You Tube because I really am a lipstick addict!  I can definitely say I have more lipsticks and lip glosses than any other make up products and it's always the first products that I gravitate for whenever I'm checking out a make up display/collection.

As you will also see with my answers, my favorite lip products are nude shades and I'm also horrible at picking favorites, so I have more than one answers to a lot of the questions!

Favorite Balm/Treatment

I had to pick two because I have one favorite for during the day and one for during the night.  During the day, I like using Nivea A Kiss of Olive Oil & Lemon.  I love using this alone on no make up days to hydrate my lips and on days where I do put on lipstick, I put a light layer on before the lipstick.  It helps keep lips smooth and moist no matter what type of lipstick I apply on top of it (especially because I do prefer more matte lipsticks).  For night time my favorite is the Blistex Lip Medex.  My friend Dani gave me this for my birthday and said it was going to save my lips and she was right!  On nights when my lips are gross, chapped, in pain, dry I put a thick layer of this before bed and in the morning my lips feel brand new!

Best Eye Catching Red

I know this is going to sound insane, but I have never purchased a red lipstick by itself before!  I have a few that came in make up sets, but I never purchased one alone before.  I've only ever worn a red lip out a few times before, but my favorite one when I did was Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate.  I got this in the Sephora Give Me More Lip set that they were offering this past holiday season.  Don't let the name fool you, it's a bright, rich red color.  It's very eye catching and comfortable to wear!  The color shines through with just one layer and lasts a long time.

Best Luxury Lipstick

I know when you say luxury it normally means Chanel or YSL, but I don't own any of those brands, so I'm picking Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks.  I own them in the shades Naked 2 and Liar.  These lipsticks are one of my favorite formulas ever. They are super creamy (you don't even need a lip balm underneath), highly pigmented and last a long time.  I always make sure when I have a coupon or discount when I buy any lipsticks, but I can say I believe these are worth more than a drug store price tag because of their quality (and I do not say that often!).

Best Drugstore Lipstick

I am the queen of drug store beauty products so you think it would have been hard for me to pick a favorite lipstick, but it was actually a no brainer for me. My favorite are Wet N Wild Fergie Collection lipsticks.  My favorite shades are Bebot Love and Fergie Daily (nudes of course!).  These lipsticks have amazing pigmentation and last for a very long time!  They are creamy when you apply them, but they can get a little drying over time, so I normally do put some lip balm on before applying.  These are great with lip glosses or on their own.  As you can see from the picture, I wear these often and I have back ups just in case they ever discontinue them!  My only tiny complaint about these might be that they packaging is cheap (as you can see by the words almost gone from the one tube!) but the lipstick is so good, I don't care!

Best Mac Lipstick

I have had a favorite Mac lipstick for over a year, but just recently another one came along that has tied it.  So now I have two favorites- Honey Love and Enchanted One.  Enchanted One was a limited edition from the Alluring Aquatic line.  They are both matte formulas (which are my favorite for most lipsticks).  I normally wear a lip balm underneath both of these, but they are both highly pigmented and go beautifully with most shades of lip glosses.

Liner- Yes or No?

On a daily basis I do not wear a lip liner, but that's mainly just because of time constraints.  I'm normally in a hurry in the morning so lip liner is a step I normally skip.  But for special occasions I do wear it.  I think it helps keep my color lasting longer.  When I do wear it my favorites are Rimmel Exaggerate in the shades Eastend Snob and Innocent and NYX Retractable Lip Liner in Natural and Nude.

Best Gloss

This is another category where I had to cheat because I could not pick just one!  My two favorites are NYX Butter Glosses and L'Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinary Lip Color.  The butter glosses are my favorite for when I need something quick and on the go.  I can through them on with any lipstick and they look amazing or I can even wear them alone for just some color with a beautiful shiney gloss look.  And one of my favorite parts in the smell!  They all smell like sweet cookies or cake!  They recently came out with a bunch more colors, so there is a really wide range now. My favorites, which are pictured above are Tiramisu, Praline and Crème Brulee.  The L'Oreal Color Riche have a more intense color than the NYX ones.  I usually where these at more special occasions when I want my lip color to really pop.  These are so pigmented that a lot of people wear them alone, but I prefer them with a lipstick because I think it helps them last longer.  My favorite shades are Nude Ballet and Caramel Solo.

Most Disappointing

My two biggest disappointments when it comes to lip products were the NYX Butter lipsticks and the Too Face La Crème lipsticks.  I feel so in love with the NYX butter glosses that I was beyond excited when I heard they were coming up with Butter lipsticks.  I was hoping they would be just as amazing, but unfortunately I did not find them that great.  First, I am not a fan of the color selection (AKA no nude colors).  Also, I tried 3 different ones and each of the ones I tried I had to put on like 4 layers just to get a decent amount of color on my lips.  And I also did not feel like they lasted long at all. So I was very disappointed in those.  For the Too Faced ones, I did a lot of research online before deciding to try them since they have such a high price tag, but even with all my research I was let down.  The colors are beautiful to swatch, but it was really hard to build up that color on your lips.  Also, they were very creamy, but I feel like since they were so creamy, they did not stay on your lips for very long.  After an hour (when I did not eat or drink anything) I could not even tell I put on any lip product.  The best part about them was just the smell (they smell like marshmallows).

Something Extra

I thought the best thing to use for my something extra is the lip products I reach for more than any others in my collection.  These are the ones that I will definitely be running out of before any others (and it's very rare that a lipstick addict actually finishes a lipstick!).  Both of these lipsticks are just so easy to through on when I'm running late and I just want a bit of color on my lips.  I know from the pictures they look like my typical nudes, but both of these actually are more of "your lips but better colors" when they are applied.  These are Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Honey Berry and Rimmel #14 from the Kate Moss line.  Both last a long time and do no need a lip balm underneath.  I normally where them without a lip gloss because I'm just throwing them on as I run out the door, but they would pair well with a light pink or nude gloss also.

That's all for my Lipstick Product tag!  I know that a lot of the shades that I picked were nudes, but I really love the formulas of all the ones I picked, so even if you do not like nude shades, I would still recommend any of these lip products in any of the shades you would prefer!  If you did a video or blog post with this tag, please link it below!  I love reading or watching posts about this tag!

Also, if you have any favorites you think I might like, please feel free to let me know in the comments or on my other social media accounts, I love trying new products from others recommendations!  And please be sure to subscribe to me on Instagram and Twitter because that's where I post most of the sales/discounts/coupons I find on all the products I mentioned!  Every product I purchased in this post I got with some kind of sale or coupon!

My July Ipsy Bag

Welcome Beauty Bargain Hunters!

I know everyone says this with every single Ispy or monthly favorite post/video but I really do feel like this month just flew by!  Two days before the bag came in a the mail a friend of mine sent me a picture of her glam room for July and I was in shock that the July bag was already on it's way! I feel like I just opened my June Ipsy bag the other day!  I can't believe it's time for July already!  But it is here, so it's time to show you what goodies I got this month.  I kind of have mixed opinions about the items this month.  For anyone who is not familiar with Ipsy it's a monthly beauty subscription bag that gives you 4-6 sample, trial and occasionally full size beauty and make up items.  You complet a survey on their website about your preferences, skin tone, etc and then for $10 a month they will send you items that they believe based on your preferences you would enjoy (you can also rate your products when they arrive on their website, and that will give them an even better idea of the items you like).  If you are interested in signing up, click here!  No sign up fee and you can cancel at any time.

The Bag- At first glance, this bag is super cute. It's hot pink with ruffled edges and it's a bit bigger than some of the other bags have recently been.  Unfortunately the bag does not seem really well made.  I normally take Ipsy bags for traveling or I put them in my purse for my everyday make up.  I think if I put this bag in my purse it would probably start to come apart within a month.  But I will probably use it for occasionally trips, just not everyday.

Bare Mineral 5 in 1 Cream Eyeshadow in Divine Wine- I was really happy to get this sample!  I am a fan of cream shadows, but it's not a product that I normally buy high end brands of, so it's great that I can try this one out without having to invest in the full size.  The color is a taupey brown which I do like for my eye make up.  And the sample looks small, but since you don't need much each time, I think this sample will last a good amount of time.

Benefit They're Real Mascara- This is a sample size of my holy grail mascara!  I'm not going to go into too much detail since I have raved about this mascara many times (see my Holy Grail post, here).  But I'll just say that this product basically paid for the whole bag for me in my opinion!

Hang Ten Dark Tanning Oil- I was actually kind of surprised this was in the bag.  I know some people do still tan outside, but most of the people I read/watch in the beauty community only use self tanners now since it's been proven how unsafe out door tanning is.  I normally self tan myself, but I am about to go on vacation in North Carolina to a resort with many out door pools, so I might get one or two uses out of it.  I can just say I'm glad it's just a sample size because I don't think I would be able to use it all if was full size (and sample size will be perfect for carrying on my trip too).

Elizabeth Mott Lip and Cheek Stain in Cherry- This is one of those brands that I would never know about if it wasn't for my Ipsy bag (one of the reasons I love Ipsy, trying brands I would not normally get a chance to try out).  Cheek stains do make me a little nervous because I'm not the best at applying them, but I'll definitely give it a try.  I probably won't try this on my lips though, just because I'm not big into red lips (love it on others, but just not myself).

Lavilin Jojoba Skin Smoother Gel Cream- This product confused me in many ways.  First, I had never heard of the brand.  Second, I have no idea when I should use this.  It says on the label to use following "intensive physical activity".  I know I should, but I don't normally work out, so I don't do much intensive physical activity.  Plus, if I did, I would want a shower afterwards, not put on lotion, so it does not look like I will following those instructions anytime soon!  There is no smell to it and it just feels like a normal lotion on the skin, so I will probably just use this like I would any other lotion sample.

Plus there was a coupon for free shipping of any Bare Minerals purchase on Ulta.com (you know I love any coupon I can get)!

That's everything I got in my Ipsy bag this month.  I can definitely say, like most months, I got my $10 worth, but there were some products I would have skipped if I was able to pick them myself.  But as long as I get my money's worth, I consider it at a win!  This is my favorite subscription service line out there.  Being only $10 a month, you don't have to invest a lot to get to try some new products from brands you might not get to try otherwise.  I review my Ipsy bag everyone month, so look through my old posts if you want to see some of the other items I have received!

Happy Savings Everyone!

Beauty Product Empties Part 4

Welcome Beauty Bargain Hunters!

My empties bag just keeps filling up!  Here is a bunch of the products that I have used up lately and my thoughts about them!  If you have more questions, please feel free to ask in the comments, I love helping others figure out what will work for them!

ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Already have
This is my to-go eye shadow primer.  It does an amazing job at priming my eyes and it only cost $1 on some websites (the ELF website has it listed at $3 right now, but they have 50% off sales all the time, so it’s easy to get it for less than $2)!  In my opinion this primer is an exact dupe for the Urban Decay Primer Potion (if you put a dot of both on my hand, I could not tell the difference) and it costs much less!  I will definitely keep purchasing and using this primer in the future (another primer would really have to impress me to give up only spending a dollar or two for this one)!

No! No! Smooth After Treatment Cream
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Want to! But need to win the lottery first!
A year or two ago I bought the No! No! hair removal system.  The actual machine did not work for me (I hear they have an improved device that people like better) but this lotion came with it so I thought I would use it even without the system.  And I absolutely love this lotion!  This lotion was perfect for when I shaved my legs in the shower and afterwards they felt a bit dry and raw.  It has a thin texture that is very cooling and really soothed my legs.  And since the texture is thin, it dried quickly and it didn’t feel too heavy or thick.  I would definitely say this is my favorite after shaving lotions ever.  But unfortunately there is one downside…. The price.  It came free when I bought the device, but to buy the full size by itself, it’s $50.  That is a crazy amount of money for a lotion!  I think that’s even too much to ask for one bottle as a gift from someone.  So as much as I love this lotion, unfortunately I will probably not repurchase.

 Simple Eye Make-Up Remover Pad
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Yes
I bought these as part of a deal on Simple products and I even though I had not heard much about this product before, I was pleasantly surprised.  They worked well at removing all my eye make up, they were moist, they did not bother my eyes and also they were also a really good size.  I think I actually prefer these to my old favorites, Almay make up remover pads because they are bigger and the moistness was evenly distributed between all them.  I will be looking for sales and coupons to stock up on more soon!

Herbal Essence Body Envy Max Hold Hairspray
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: No
I’m not a fan of this hairspray, it makes my hair crunchy but does not hold as well as some other ones (like Chi Helmut Head).  Since I could not return this, I used it sparingly usually when I was doing a simple ponytail and wanted keep my fly-aways in place.  I also did not see any change in the amount of body in my hair (since it is called Body Envy, I was thinking I may see a difference).  Though I was able to finish the bottle, I will not repurchase.

 Skindinavia Bridal Makeup Finish Spray
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Yes (but not necessarily this formula)
I have been a huge fan of the Urban Decay and Skindinavia setting sprays for a while so when I saw a deal on Bridal Makeup formula, I wanted to try it.  While I did really like this spray and I felt it kept my makeup in place and matte all day, I did not feel it worked any differently/better than the original formula of the Skindinavia.  I would recommend this spray and I will repurchase, but I would never pay extra for this specific formula.

Suave Creamy Milk & Honey Splash Body Wash
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Maybe
This was a decent body wash.  The smell was alright, it kind of reminded me of cheap vanilla body products would get in cheap gift baskets at Christmas (hope someone understands that description!).  I used this in the winter hoping since it was creamy that it would help keep my skin moisturized (with the cold weather and my hot showers my legs can get really dry).  Unfortunately I didn’t notice that my skin was much more moisturized afterwards, I still needed to use a lotion.  But this wasn’t bad, I would repurchase if I could find a good deal on it!

St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub
Used Till Empty: Yes
Would Repurchase: Already have
This is a product that is a bit controversial.  Some people say scrubs are too harsh for your skin and should not be used, others (like me) do not mind it.  The way I rationalize it, is I make sure not to scrub too hard and I usually use a soft applicator (like a Dr. Sponge) to make sure it’s not too harsh on my skin.  I like to use them about 2 to 3 times a week (normally in the shower) because it makes my skin feel cleaner and I think it helps get all the dead skin cells off easily.  The St.Ives formula is one of my favorite because it works well and it very reasonably priced.  I go through this product pretty quickly, so I like to get them as cost efficient as I can.  This goes on sale at drug stores and Ulta often and occasionally St. Ives does put out coupons.  But I do have to say, compared to other face scrubs, the exfoliating beads in this product are bit larger (harsher) than some others I have tried, so it is important to apply very gently or you could irritate your face.

Milani Face Powder
Used Till Empty: No
Will Repurchase: No
I got this face powder when CVS was having their 50% off sale.  Milani is not a brand that puts out coupons, so the best you can do is find a good sale or clearance event like this one.  I had heard a few people say they liked this powder, so I jumped on it when I saw it was on clearance.  But unfortunately, I was disappointed.  I think I’m a little critical when it comes to face powder because I have found so many that I like, that I have no time for so-so ones.  This powder was not bad, but it just didn’t provide any coverage (I like for my face powder to give me a bit of coverage that helps my concealer and foundation look flawless together and sometimes I will wear a high coverage face powder by itself on weekends).  It did help keep my face matte during the day (but not my oily chin) but without at least some coverage, it did not make the cut for me!

That's all of them for now!  But I will be posting more soon!  I hope all of you like reading about product empties as much as I do!  They are always my favorite posts and YouTube videos to watch because I think the first step to making money saving beauty purchases is research.  If a product doesn't work for you, than it doesn't matter how much money you save on it!  And product empties are a great way to see what other people who have used the product many, many times think of them!

Happy Savings Everyone!
