Product Empties!!

Welcome Back Beauty Bargain Hunters!

I know since I had my daughter I have not been blogging very much at all!  I wish that I had more time but with a little baby and a full time job it's been so tough to fit it all in! I do still post sales I find on Instagram and Twitter all the time so be sure that you follow me there!  But one thing that I have not stopped doing  is USING my products!  Every time I have finished anything remotely beauty related I have been throwing them in my empties bin.  And for the past few weeks I have been finding some time to write some reviews on these products for you guys!  Here is the first batch of products I used up recently and what I think about them!  I have also thrown in some tips and tricks I use to get the best prices I can for these!

NYX Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer- I did like this primer, I think of it as the drug store version of the Smash Box Photo FinishPrimer.  It’s very similar, but a little less smooth and light weight than the Smash Box one.  But it still glides on well, gives my face a good base for foundation and helps keep my make up in place all day.  I would repurchase if Ulta has another 40% off sale on it.

Softsoap Spa Radiant Body Wash- I was a fan of this body wash.  The smell was good and it lathered well.  It does say on the bottle that it is exfoliating, but I personally still used a separate exfoliator on more days because I didn’t feel like the exfoliating beads in it with really strong enough to really exfoliate my skin (I’m used to more rough exfoliators).  So I wouldn’t recommend it for the exfoliating part, but it was good as a body wash.  I got this at CVS with coupons and a sale.

Target Up & Up Cleansing Towelettes- These are one of my favorite make up wipes.  The main three things I look for with make up wipes is if they are moist enough, if they are large enough and if they do not irritate my eyes.  These have all three!  It says on the package that they compare to the Ponds make up wipes (another one of my favorites) and they do, they are a dupe for those exactly.  I normally buy these whenever there is a sale or I have coupons (plus Target Cartwheel has a discount on these often). I highly recommend them.

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In Plus Keratin Conditioner- I got this sample with a purchase at Ulta earlier this year.  I really liked this conditioner.  It detangled my hair and made it soft and smooth.  I would buy this again for sure if it wasn’t for the price tag. The normal size bottle is $39.95.  Now I’m sure that would last a while (this small size one lasted 2-3 months) but I still feel like that’s high for a spray conditioner.  I have used others that are way less and have enjoyed the results from them also (click here to see which one I'm talking about), so I don’t think I will repurchase unless there is a really good sale on this.

Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask- I got this sample in an Ipsy bag and I was not a huge fan of this mask.  I tried it twice (there was enough in the sample to use it at least one more time, but I didn’t want to) and I just didn’t feel like it did anything for my skin.  I like masks that tingle and really seem to help my skin.  This one I didn’t not notice any difference and it was hard to peel off (especially around the hair line).

YSL Baby Doll Mascara- I was so excited to try this mascara because I had heard so many good things about it (I got it when Sephora had a 20% off sale a while back).  I like this mascara, but I don’t think it lived up to the hype I heard about it and I definitely don’t think it was worth the price.  I felt it was more of a lengthing  mascara then for volume.  Length it would give starting with the first coat, but for volume I would have to do 3 or 4 coats.  After that it would look great, but it is more coats (and longer) than I’m used to.  Also, I feel like it dried out quickly.  It lasted about 3 months (maybe a little less).  I know that you are only supposed to use mascara for three months, but when a mascara is very good (and/or very expensive) I try to use it a little longer to try and get my money’s worth.  But I could not try with this one, it was bone dry.  So I would only recommend this one if you don’t mind applying many coats and you have the money to spend.

Clean and Clear Foaming Face Cleanser for Sensitive Skin- I used this cleanser in the shower to remove my make up at the end of the day.  I did really like this one, it removed all my makeup (including eye make up) with just a few pumps.  I usually get this at the drug store when it’s on sale and I have coupons.  I would recommend this and will repurchase when I see another sale and have a coupon.

Bath and Body Works True Blue Super Softening Hand Lotion- I kept this mini hand creams in my purse for probably the last two years.  I didn’t have to use it often since I have lotion all over my house and at my desk at work, but every once in a while I would use it (mostly in winter).  It was good for just once in a while, I didn’t love the smell (like I do with the Soapand Glory Hand Food) but it did make my hands soft and moisturized.  I would buy another mini for my purse, because it was the perfect size for my purse but I wouldn’t buy the full size because it is pricey.  If I was going to splurge on a head cream, I would get the Soap & Glory Hand Food.

Cover Girl 3 in 1 Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation- I’m not going to go into too much detail about this one because I have already said in many posts on here and my Instagram account that this is one of my holy grail foundations.  I love it by itself or sometimes mixing with this other foundations that I don’t like as much on their own.  If you want more detail, check out my Holy Grail product post I did last year.
That's all my empties products for this round!  But check back again soon because I have a TON more empties in my bin and I'll be posting more reviews soon!

Search for the Best Brush Cleaner

Hi Beauty Bargain Hunters!

As most of you probably already know, Sephora just had their 15% off your whole purchase sale a couple weeks ago.  When I thought about what I wanted to buy at this sale, one of the first things that came to mind was the Beauty Blender Solid. I have heard so many people on blogs or in You Tube videos say that this was the best brush cleaner ever.  But I was hesitant because of the price tag.  I liked using my dish soap and I already had it in my house, so I always figured I would save myself the extra cost and just what I already had!  But then about a month ago I found the Dr. Bronner's Soap at Target on clearance and I thought I would try it.  I really liked it and it ended up getting some of my brushes cleaner faster than my dish soap would.  So after trying Dr. Bronner's I decided with the Sephora sale that I would finally get the Beauty Blender solid and see what all the fuss was about!  I just cleaned my brushes yesterday and here is how I rank my brush cleaners now:

1. Beauty Blender Solid
2. Dr. Bronner's Soap
3. Dish Soap
4. Baby Shampoo

The main deciding factor in the ranking of these is not actually how clean my brushes get, but the time it takes to get them clean.  All of these soaps can get your brushes clean with time and some work (some a little better than others), but the Beauty Blender Solid gets them clean faster than any of the other ones.  With a baby in the house, I don't have all day to be cleaning my brushes, so I want to use the cleaner that will get them the cleanest, in the fastest amount of have time.

Plus, I do think the Beauty Blender Solid and the Dr. Bronner's Soap do get the brushes and sponges cleaner than the dish soap and baby shampoo.  I had a few brushes that I thought were permanently stained by blush or concealer when I was using dish soap, but when I used the other two they came completely clean again!

So my verdict is, if you are low on funds, dish soap will get your brushes and sponges clean, it's just going to take some more effort and time.  But is you see a sale on Dr. Bronner's or during Sephora's semi-annual sale, pick it up, you will not regret it!
